A Home And Jobs

Homelessness and unemployment are created. They are not natural phenomenon. The secret to creating jobs is to not create unemployment. Jobs are naturally created it is a system that allows and even rewards the elimination of jobs that needs to be addressed.

The program given below is a way to create homes and jobs simultaneously. Land is the primary need but even a few acres is sufficient for a few families depending on how sustainable the community hopes to be. 30 acres of farmland would be good, more would be better if a self-sustaining community is desired. The size of the land limits the numbers to some extent more because of zoning issues than any other reason. To acquire land within the legal structure we are in a corporation needs to be created and each member of the corporation provided a Common Share or voting share. An executive is voted in by the shareholders to conduct meetings and represent the interests of the corporation. Land is acquired using convential sources. Each member may contribute an equal amount or/and the corporation can sell bonds to the members to fund the purchase. Bonds can be purchased in any amounts the members decide to permit.

Members can trade time and skills with the Exchange for their share of the land. Tools and equipment can also be traded to help pay their share of the costs, this is facilitated by the use of an internal currency that tracks what people owe and what they pay in terms of the equity that these things represent to the Exchange. Rollars are used by the Exchange to pay for the tools and other supplies needed that it can get from the members.

Members can build homes and other facilities using rollars as the medium of exchange. That is rollars are used to pay for all work performed. Local businesses may be willing to donate some or all of the material needed or accept rollars in payment or part payment once they understand they will receive goods and services in exchange for the rollars.

If a community is being built for the homeless a viable option are micro homes. These can be added to as the need and resources become available. A common work area or workplex is built first to house tools and facilities for productive activities such as arts and crafts and micro-industry. Tools for plumbing, carpentry, tiling and other trades ought to be collected, some of these may be donated by member or obtained in exchange for rollars. The worksplex serves as the hub of the construction process. A barn for animals and implements shed will be needed if farming is to take place.

A CEO and Board Members are appointed by the members, the Board of Directors will probably be the body of members. Everyone who becomes a member owns one voting share of the community and is given a supply of rollars so he or she can start to trade with the community.

If day care is required members vote to participate. If sufficient numbers volunteer the time and resources needed to start a day care then day care is provided. Space is created or provided and members are accepted as caregivers. The caregivers are paid for their services with rollars. Those who use the daycare pay for the service using rollars.

The workplex houses tools and equipment and specially designed work areas. Space and tools are rented as needed to those who need the space. Tools and equipment are purchased or rented from members by the Exchange using rollars and rented out the same way.

The Exchange creates jobs by encouraging people to do what they do best and this promotes specialization, sustainability and self-reliance.
