united for freedom

Progress

Economic activity creates ownership and progress and progress gives humans a sense of freedom for this gives us more choices. Creating more choices for more people is what progress is all about.

Progress gives direction to our life and brings economic change to our communities. Progress is about eliminating waste and giving all persons choices. The choices we have give us our sense of freedom. Progress requires we identify sources of waste and eliminate them. Debt perpetuates and excerbates waste. Debt is a source of waste and results in a loss of choices.

Debt promises more choices but these it methodically eliminates until one is imprisoned in the necessity represented by the debt repayments.

Progress happens in and through community. A community is a pool of economic activity minus debt. Community is ultimately what a community owns, its capital.  A community is a business or market. The market exists or functions as well as the ethics it uses.

Progress is about eliminating debt and waste. Communities are about human freedom. Rational Exchange is a business that builds communities of freedom. Communities that are not progressing are not free they are unethical. Economically an unethical community uses less and less cash and creates more debt. Ethical Communities eliminate waste. Ethical Communities do not become desensitized to waste they seek to make what they do more efficient that is to redefine waste in ever more refined ways. What was not waste a year ago becomes waste as better methods of use are devised. Eliminating waste creates Ethical communities.

Human rights are based on and extend from and are dependent on Ethical Rights these are the right of a community to what the community produces. We have a right to life as individuals because we have a right to what others have a right to, life is an Ethical Right. We have a right to contribute to our community.

We have an Ethical Right to contribute to the progress of a community. Rights and duties are mirror images of each other enshrined in our Ethical Rights. The ethical Right to Life is the right to have and the duty to preserve life. The community is the proper agent for the dispensation of rights not the state because the community is the proper venue for the realization and fulfillment of duties. The community is the measure and arbitator of waste. When we live according to the principle that rights and duties reflect one another then it becomes significant how we live in a community.

Doing what is right is what makes sense whereas the wrong way is unprofitable and leads to poor results. Poor results are seen in poor communities. Doing less than ones best is immoral and creates costs for others. When costs increase profits decrease and economic development declines. Where risk exists inflation increases.  When inflation is absent or declines risk also declines. Inflation exists in a direct ratio to risk. Rational Exchange promotes Ethical Rights because progress is a measure of how right our choices are. When we have progress we have people making right choices when we have poverty we have people who are making too many wrong decisions. What is profitable in terms of a community pushes inflation towards zero. When inflation is absent progress is not only possible it is inevitable. Inflation is a direct correlate of waste and waste a measure of the degree to which our Ethical Rights are being infringed.

The Golden Rule is the best and highest expression of our Ethical Rights. Reason requires us to act in a way that does not create costs for others. No one wants others to create costs for him or her. To do unto others as we would have them do unto us is both an expression of Rationalism and respect for the resources and value of the planet. Ethical Rationalists must eliminate waste. To care for the community is to care for the resources we have.

Community values and sense of belonging is tied up in how we care for others in our community. The more alienated our economics and politics the less allegience we feel to a community. Our sense of community fades as our commitment to mankinds Ethical Rights declines. The decline in our sense of community is because our community has ceased to care for us. Ethical Rights must by definition be common to all or they are not ethical thus the community is always the source of our Rights. To have a strong local community requires a concern for the Rights of all this means we need to care for the planet as the Right of all. A Green Community is a Ethical Community is an ethical and rational community.

Rationalists believe the market is or ought to be to be an engine of progress and therefore have a positive impact on the planet. Markets are meant to reduce waste and be a force for the elimination of waste. Rational Exchange creates Ethical Markets that is markets that systematically reduce waste by promoting and respecting Ethical Rights. Ethical Markets are local and community based and focused on creating progress by identifying and eliminating sources of waste this is done to be in compliance to the doctrine of Ethical Rights. Waste infringes humanities Rights.

Free Markets are free of preconditions or standards. Free markets have no moral scruples about waste. Free markets are unethical composed of property owned by a state who charters rights to individuals and economic entities this creates capital and private ownership and the activity of these entities is what composes the activity of the market. This robs citizens of what rightfully belongs to them as a community. The state has no mandate to deprive community of resources that belong to the community. The state cannot rationally argue it has received a mandate from the people to deprive them of their Ethical Rights so the doctrine of state power and state authority is a fallicious argument. (read: The Tragedy Of The Commons).

Ethical Exchanges are community markets designed to systematically reduce and eliminate waste. Exchanges are founded on and subscribe to the Labour Theory of Value (LTV) as we believe this is the highest expression of our Ethical Rights.  When we pay only for the labour put into a product or service waste is eliminated. Ethical Rationalists believe all value is created by labour. Progress is labour adding value to the world. When value is added waste is eliminated. Labour is the act of living in a way that adds value to what one possesses. Ethical Rationalists believe the determination of a just price is possible and can be determined by adding up the total value of all contributions made by labour. We further suggest that all charges above and beyond that derived from a use of the LTV is fictitious and serves to camaflogue waste.

The LTV can be ascertained only when human rights are fully respected and legal rights have been rejected. Where ownership is determined by the state the LTV fails.

Truth has only one outcome it cannot be manipulated and remain consistent with itself. Truth creates and is based on the promotion of progress. Truth is that which contributes to progress. Truth is devoid of waste in that which is true is that which contains no waste.

No person or group of persons has the right to claim ownership rights over the natural world beyond what is needed for common everyday usage. That is we own what is not wasted. This level of ownership is  defined as possession or personal use. There are two levels of or kinds of use representing two types of ownership. Personal use is foundational and refers to what is required so that we are not wasted so that in fact we can be useful to our community. Personal ownership provides the fundamental necessities of life and use. Personal ownership is an Ethical Right.

Private ownership defined as the ownership of capital is over and above the necessities of life and by definition cannot be considered a Ethical Right nor based in or upon our Ethical Rights. Capital conflcits with The Golden Rule. Private ownership is extraneous to needs and this is why it is able to create surpluses at least so far as the owners is concerned. Where surplus exists Ethical Rights are not respected and waste is likely to follow.

To infringe upon the ownership rights of others in league with the state infringes human rights and freedoms because this leads to waste of resources that by right belong to the community. We own the value we add to an asset but we have no claim on the asset itself. This is in accordance to the Doctrine of Ethical Rights.

Progress is a process of adding value to an asset a process that is also referred to as creating equity. Progress is the accumulation of equity. When equity is created waste is eliminated.

Rational Exchange's mission is to promote humanities Ethical Rights and The Golden Rule defined by the value we create. Rationality by definition reduces waste. Ethical Rights are only fully realized in a Progresive Community as determined by the ROI of the community.

Rational Exchange believes The Golden Rule is the best and fullest expression of our Ethical Rights. Living by The Golden Rule reduces waste.

Free riding produces social costs and is not consistent with Ethical Communities.

The State generates a fictitious form of ownership referred to as Statuatory Ownership or ownership under the law created by the doctrine of legal rights. Statuatory Ownership provides a set of rights in exchange for servitude to the state. The legitimization of social costs by the state in exchange for vassalage is the source of all of our social and economic problems. Ethical Rationalists reject free riding even as we reject the notion of Statuatory Ownership.
